The subject of Chemistry was brought alive for over 200 pupils from South Wales’ Welsh medium schools at a Hands on Science event this month at the University of Glamorgan. The event ‘Chemistry at Work’, gave Year 9 and Year 10 pupils an insight into the world of Chemistry and science. As well as taking part in an exciting live science show, pupils were
able to discover the career opportunities and degree options available
to them in Chemistry from Dr Wynne Evans, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry
at the University of Glamorgan. There was also the opportunity to talk
to a representative from the chemicals industry, Rebecca Reed from Dow
Corning.
Laura Janes, Hands on Science Coordinator based at the University of
Glamorgan said, “The aim of the event is to get these young people
enthusiastic about science, inspire them to study science beyond their
GCSEs and raise their awareness of the options available to them in
science related careers. This event was particularly unique because
pupils got the opportunity to take part in interactive science lectures
form academics through the medium of Welsh.”
