The First Campus Junior Games at UWIC’s National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC) saw pupils from five primary schools across Cardiff compete in a variety of gruelling athletic events. The event was the culmination of a five-week long after school club in which pupils were coached in various athletic disciplines by university coaches, including long jump, discus, javelin, high jump and hurdles. Groups of pupils from Willowbrook, Ninian Park, Baden Powell, Kitchener and Gladstone Primary schools were also thrilled when 200m champion Christian Malcolm attended their competition to cheer on teams and hand out medals.
The pupils were split into three teams competing for the title of Junior |

Olympic champions with the Red Dragons eventually taking gold. All children were taught the specialist skills they would need to go out and perform to the best of their ability in each event by UWIC graduate and champion pole vaulter Louise Butterworth and her coaching team.
